Purify your water source simply and effectively! Chloramines, chlorine, iron, hydrogen sulfide and heavy metals don’t stand a chance against Hydrologic’s filtration media. For use in purifying source water before topping off your aquaponic system. When your system naturally loses water from evaporation and transpiration, the BigBoy water filter can be connected to an optional float valve for automatic, hands-free water level replenishment.

Description
The Hydrologic BigBoy Water Filter
The Hydrologic BigBoy Filter reduces up to 99% chlorine and 95% of sediment, rust, silt, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), mercury, lead, and PCBs (organic chlorine), keeping beneficial bacteria and microorganisms alive and healthy. In aquaponic systems, the BigBoy filter would be connected to your source water and used as top-off water to replenish water loss.

How the Hydrologic Big Boy Filter Works:
Connect the included tubing and hose bib connection to a main source water hose bib. Use the remaining tubing to connect the filter’s outlet to a (optional) float valve inside of your sump or reservoir.
Standard Filter Cartridges & Upgrades
The Hydrologic BigBoy Water Filter includes two standard filter cartridges: the Sediment Filter and the Coconut Carbon Filter.
The Sediment Filter traps sediment and has a high dirt-holding capacity.
The Coconut Carbon Filter removes 99% of chlorine and meets NSF61 standards.

Coconut Carbon Filter

Recommended Filter Upgrade

ChloraShield Filter
Many cities add chloramine into the water supply as a sanitizer. While the Coconut Carbon Filter removes 99% of chlorine, it doesn’t remove any chloramine. That’s why we recommend upgrading to the Chlorashield filter to replace the Coconut Carbon filter if your city adds chloramine to your water. This filter ensures the full removal of chloramines leading to optimal root zone health and fish-safe water.

KDF85 Granualted Catalytic Filter
The KDF85 filter has a much larger 15,000 gallon capacity and reduces chlorine and sulfur but only reduces the amount of chloramine present. This is why the KDF85 filter is great for operations running on well water or municipal water where chloramine hasn’t been added.
Recommended Add Ons

Water Flow Meter
Track the amount of water flowing through your filter so you know when it’s time to replace the cartridges.
Connect the flow meter directly to your source water hose bib. The TallBoy filter includes a hose connection to run to your main system.

Float Valve
Control water level in the sump tank of your aquaponic system automatically with the 3/4″ Hydrologic Float Valve. Plumbing a float valve into your system means you no longer have to rely on manually checking your water levels. When your water levels get too low, the valve opens to allow more water to automatically top off and turns off once the regular water level is regained.
