How It Works

Healthy Food For A Lifetime

Media Beds – Great for Fruiting and Vining Crops

The expanded clay pebbles provide a stable medium for the roots to grow and absorb water and nutrients.  In addition to leafy greens like lettuce, basil, and kale, media beds are particularly great for growing a wide variety of fruiting and vining crops, such as:
  • Veggies: Tomatoes – Peppers – Eggplant – Pole Beans – Squash-Cucumbers – Nasturtiums – Strawberries – Dwarf Fruit Trees
  • Lettuce varieties: Romaine – Bibb – Salanova – Butterhead – Baby Greens
  • Herbs: Basil – Parsley – Mint – Thyme – Rosemary – Cilantro
  • Cooking Greens: Collards – Mustard – Kale – Chard – Bok Choy

Edible or Ornamental Fish

Do you have to harvest your fish? No. Can you harvest your fish? Yes! Fish tanks are 125 gallons and can include an optional window kit for viewing of the fish. Filtered water for the fish continuously flows through the tank at a rate of 1 to 1.5 full exchanges per hour. Several different species of fish can be raised such as:

Tilapia – Hybrid Striped Bass – Catfish – Trout – Koi

Modular Design

Sometimes two isn’t enough. The modular design of the Harmony system means growers can add an additional one or two grow beds. With more grow beds, growers can enjoy an expanded crop variety as well as an increase in the weekly harvest amount.

Full Spectrum LED Lighting for Optimal Growth

harmony system

One of the great benefits of indoor aquaponic gardening is the ability to grow year round. If you are growing in your basement, a classroom or even in a greenhouse you will need artificial lights for optimal plant growth.

  • 300 Watt Efficient LEDs deliver more light using less power. Lower your energy costs or grow more with existing power
  • Grow Lights come with a timer which allows you to set your lighting schedule for when it’s most convenient for you and your plants.

Seeing is Believing

Fish Tanks – Our Harmony fish tank is 125 gallons, ideally suited for raising edible or ornamental fish. Tanks can easily fit through a standard door way when rolled on their side. Tanks come in a forest green color.

Optional Window Kits – Seeing your fish is one of the most enjoyable aspects of aquaponics. Most fish are very social and will come to the window to see you especially because they know you are the person who feeds them! Windows are also a great way to observe the health of your fish and your water clarity. Our window kits come with all of the necessary stainless steel mounting hardware, a pre-drilled acrylic window and a water tight foam gasket. Watch the Installation Video on the Window Kit Product Page. Windows are not pre-installed on tanks to prevent damage during shipping.

No Cutting, Gluing or Special Tools Required

Expectations For Your Harmony System

An aquaponic system shouldn’t take over your life, it should enrich it. Here is what to expect when welcoming a Harmony system into your home or classroom.

The Weekly Maintenance Breakdown (Time Investment)

Because nature does the heavy lifting, a balanced Harmony system requires less time than a traditional soil garden.

Daily (2–3 Minutes): Feed the fish and do a quick visual check on water flow.

Weekly (15–20 Minutes): Test water parameters (pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate) using your included API Master Test Kit, top off any evaporated water, and harvest your fresh greens!

Monthly (30 Minutes): Wipe down the tank viewing window, rinse pump pre-filters if necessary, and add your AquaIron or pH adjusters to keep things perfectly balanced.

Sizing & Spatial Planning (Where Does it Fit?)

Every Harmony system utilizes the same heavy-duty 125-gallon fish tank footprint, but the length scales based on your food production goals:

The Compact Choice (2-Bed): Spans just under 7 feet in length (6′-10″). Perfect for tight garage walls, small spare rooms, or compact classroom corners.

The Balanced Producer (3-Bed): Spans roughly 10 feet in length (10′-1.5″). Ideal for dedicated basement spaces, deep greenhouses, or standard science labs.

The Commercial Yield (4-Bed): Spans 13.5 feet in length (13′-5″). Optimized for high-output STEM programs, Ag extension classes, or families dedicated to total food self-reliance.

Power & Utility Requirements

Standard Electricity: The high-efficiency water and air pumps run on standard 110v household outlets. If you are growing completely indoors away from windows, adding our optional 300W Pinnacle LP grow lighting ensures your plants get full-spectrum sunshine without massive spikes in your utility bill.

Water Access: Because aquaponics recirculates water rather than draining it, the Harmony system uses up to 90% less water than traditional dirt gardening. You only need a nearby water source to occasionally top off the system from natural evaporation.

Harmony Aquaponic System FAQ’s

Where can I buy fish for my aquaponic system?2026-07-09T14:14:20-06:00

Buying fish for your aquaponic system can happen with any reputable in- or out-of-state vendor. Many vendors will ship fingerlings out of state across the continential U.S. with a 24 – 48 hour oxygen supply for the fish. This means your options expand beyond a drive to the local pet store or trying to find a vendor in your state. A person in California have their fingerlings shipped from Tennesse.

Our tilapia vendor recommendation:

Lakeway Tilapia-Tilapia only. Ships from Tennesse.

Buying Live Tilapia

Lakeway Tilapia ships fish right to your door, no matter where you are in the contiential U.S.

Tilapia Guides

Tilapia farming at home is an easy and exciting way to put the freshest fish on your family’s table.

What happens if I get stuck or my water parameters get out of balance?2026-06-19T16:11:15-06:00

Your success is our number one priority. Every system comes with a complete API Master Test Kit and a specialized AquaStart kit to safely establish your initial bacteria colony. If you ever run into a problem or have questions about your water chemistry, you receive lifetime support, simply call or email us anytime during normal business hours to speak directly with our team.

Can I run this system completely indoors?2026-06-19T16:10:47-06:00

Yes! One of the biggest advantages of the Harmony system is its ability to produce fresh food year-round indoors or inside a greenhouse. If you are growing completely indoors away from a direct sunlight source, we recommend selecting our optional Pinnacle LP 300W Grow Lighting and Integrated Light Rack upgrades to supply your crops with the exact spectrum of light they need to thrive.

How much food can I actually expect to harvest every year?2026-06-19T16:10:21-06:00

Production depends heavily on environmental factors like light and water quality, but the Harmony system is built for high yields. On average:

  • A 2-Bed System can yield up to 360 lbs of tomatoes and 90 lbs of bell peppers annually.
  • A 3-Bed System can yield up to 540 lbs of tomatoes and 135 lbs of bell peppers annually.
  • A 4-Bed System can yield up to 720 lbs of tomatoes and 180 lbs of bell peppers annually.
  • The 125-gallon fish tank will deliver roughly 40 lbs of harvestable Tilapia per year (based on 26 fish at a 1.5 lb harvest weight).
What is the benefit of a 100% media-based system over floating rafts?2026-06-19T16:08:47-06:00

Deep media beds filled with expanded clay pebbles offer the ultimate planting versatility. While floating rafts (Deep Water Culture) are generally limited to small, lightweight leafy greens, our deep clay media beds provide structural root stability. This allows you to grow quick greens plus massive, heavy-yielding vining and fruiting crops like tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers, and even dwarf fruit trees.

How many fish can the Harmony system safely support?2026-06-19T16:08:57-06:00

Every Harmony setup includes an industrial-grade 125-gallon fish tank. At our recommended stocking density for a balanced ecosystem, a standard tank comfortably holds about 26 fish (such as Tilapia, Goldfish, Koi, or Catfish). Keep in mind that exact stocking densities can vary slightly depending on the specific species you choose to raise.

Do I need to be an expert in biology or plumbing to set this up?2026-06-19T16:07:53-06:00

Not at all. We have pre-cut and pre-assembled the trickiest framing and plumbing components in our shop so you don’t have to. All plumbing lines utilize simple, leak-proof Quik-loc connections that snap together easily. Additionally, every system comes standard with 3D assembly instructions and a code for our comprehensive 5.5-hour Aquaponic Gardening Online Course to guide you through every stage of your ecosystem’s lifecycle.
