pH stabilizing is important to minimize fish and plant stress. The KH (Carbonate Hardness) of your aquaponic system water should be at least 4.0 in order to buffer a dramatic swing of pH levels. Quantities of AquaBuffer pH Stabilizer come in 1lb, 2lb, and 5lb boxes

API GH and KH Test Kit

Tests aquaponic water for general hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (KH). Helps detect stress on fish caused by rapid pH shifts, which result from low KH levels and helps aquarists duplicate the natural habitat of their fish. In aquaponic systems, we want to maintain a KH of at least 4º and it is safe to go as high as 18º.
