Q: Where are you from? Tell us a bit about yourself.

A: From regional NSW, Australia

Q: How did you get interested in aquaponics?

A: Through a mutual friend who has attended an aquaponics course.

Q: How are you currently working with aquaponics? Home setup, community greenhouse, etc.

A: I have a dodgy home set up built my myself that seems to be working

Q: Tell us about your system. Geek out a bit and tell us all the specs.

A: Its an IBC, same as the one on the you tube clip, of how to build one.

Q: What plants and fish have you had the best luck with? And the worst?

A: I have basic plants, Lettuce, Parsley, Thyme, Basil, Silver beet, Also a few snow peas and Bush beans. I have a family of 5 so I only grow what we use. plus a bit shared with the neighbor’s. its only a couple weeks old but the plants are growing very very well. However the fish (Silver Perch) seem to have good days and bad. I’m pretty much winging it but the concept is great. I just wish there was more people around here to talk to and leverage off.

Q: What do you like most about aquaponics? Least?

A: Nothing its an amazing concept! I love learning!

Q: What do you think the biggest misconception about aquaponics is?

A: Its too hard. Nothing is hard it just takes varying times to learn.

Q: What are your future aquaponics goals?

A: I want to build a Medium sized Green house where I can plant more variety in line with our seasons. I have lots of heritage seeds that I would love to keep growing knowing my family is eating healthy, non genetically modified food.

Q: What do your friends say when you show them your system for the first time?

A: they are interested, some want me to build a system for them, others like the pictures and want me to grow food for them but wont do it for themselves.

Q: What’s the best recipe you’ve ever had/made, based around something you grew in your system?

A: I have used some herbs, but it’s a bit new at the moment.

Ps, Photos attached are of seeds, that were planted directly into the media 16 days ago! the growth is mind boggling! Again I’m just a rookie here, and we have a fairly harsh climate at the moment but it doesn’t seem to bother the plants in the system, the plants in the soil are all looking worse for wear, due to the heat wave that came through last week.
